Faceless Burial hits a lot harder than what I normally listen to, but Speciation and the new Defeated Sanity (Sanguinary Impetus) are my go-to soundtracks for office drudgery in the COVID era. Something about the eyeball-melting crunch in each and every track makes paperwork and answering emails a little more palatable. dswest

Dark Descent releases so much good material that some outstanding stuff is overlooked. This band’s first EP was excellent and Primordial Offerings is even better. Metallurgical Fire

A stomping and unstoppable tank painted all black. The Finnish trio fully delivers on atmospheric Death Metal with a black and doomy touch. As a comparison Ulcerate may come to mind, but Desolate Shrine are mostly rolling on mid-tempo ground with the occasional blast beat. Big plus is also the powerful production, which most Finnish Metal bands tend to lack. Mohemian
